Launching of the Voter Registration Campaign

On Monday February 11th, the Minister of Interior and Municipalities General Marwan Charbel launched the voter registration campaign to encourage citizens to check if their records on the voter’s lists are correct from February 10 until March 10.

The press conference was held at the ministry’s premises in the presence of the Director General of the Ministry of Expatriates Haitham Jumaa, the Head of the Directorate General of Personal Status (DGPS) Mrs. Suzanne Khoury Youhana, the Chief Technical Advisor of the Lebanese Elections Assistance Programme-UNDP Mr. Richard Chambers and other officials from the Ministry.

In his speech, Minister Charbel indicated that February 10th is an annual date to publicize the electoral lists, which should be updated between February 10th and March 10th as stipulated by law. He urged the eligible voters to check their personal data either by logging to the DGPS official website: or by reviewing the voters lists at the mouhafaza, qada, municipalities and moukhtar….

Minister Charbel insisted that this stage is necessary regardless of the elections law to be adopted; the voters should check their records. And he said that the number of the voters in 2013 is 3,778,966, whereas it was 3,463,119 voters in 2012, which means there’s a 2.51% of voter increase “and that is an acceptable rate”.
