2013 Voter Registration Training

On behalf of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities (MIOM), LEAP facilitated a workshop on February 7th, 2013 at the Rivera Hotel. It aimed at highlighting the best practices and procedures regarding the update of voter register and put to use new forms for electoral officials.

The event started with a welcome speech by Mr. Pierre Kassab, the Head of the Department of Emigrant Affairs. After that Mrs. Suzanne Al Khoury Yohana, the Head of the Directorate General of Personal Status, delivered a speech on behalf of General Marwan Charbel Minister of Interior who stressed on the importance of the role of the civil registry officials in updating the voter register as stipulated by the Lebanese law. “The process would guarantee transparent and credible elections”, stated Minister Charbel in his speech and gave guidance to ensure high precision in the process of updating the voter register and addressing requests for revisions in the set time frame from February 10 to March 10, 2013 and issuing decrees to revise and correct the voter register.

Furthermore, Mrs. Khoury Yohana said that Minister Charbel values the effort made by the electoral officials who are putting extra hours due to the shortage in resources given the need to complete the update process. And she thanked, on His behalf, the LEAP team for the support provided in organizing the event and its valued contribution in ensuring a transparent electoral process.

The TV Commercial of the voter awareness campaign, prepared by LEAP on behalf of the MIOM, was screened during the session which included a review of the forms used to revise the voter register and general guidelines.
