BRIDGE training on Gender and Elections in Cairo
From 1 to 4 December 2013, the UNDP Regional Centre in Cairo organized the first regional BRIDGE (Building Resources in Democracy and Electoral Assistance) training on Gender and Elections in partnership with UN Women. Institutional and civil society actors from 10 Arab countries participated in the training including Lebanon which was represented by Mr. Samih Ayoub, Deputy Head of the Office of Elections of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, Ms. May Noureddine, the Civil Society Officer at UNDP LEAP and Ms. Olfat El Sabeh, member of “Women in Front” organization.
The training aimed to help participants gain a better understanding of the gender issues in the electoral process, in particular women’s participation and inclusion in the electoral process. Furthermore, it focused on the impact of the electoral system on the political participation of women and their representation in the elected bodies.
