UNDP & MOIM visit the Jordanian Independent Election Commission
* The vice president of the Jordanian Independent Election Commission, Mr. Riad Shaka, received for three days a Lebanese delegation from the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities and the United Nations Development Programme headed by the mandated Directorate General of Political Affairs and Refugees, Mrs. Faten Abou Hassan. The delegation’s visit aimed at overviewing the Commission’s experience in the management of the electoral process.
The Independent Election Commission shared their achievements in the supervision and management of the Parliamentary Elections that were held last January. In addition, they talked about the preparations that are taking place for the upcoming by-elections of the two local districts, (the first district in the capital and the fourth district in Karak), that will be held on the 9th of November, 2013.
The Lebanese delegation commended the advanced level of the Independent Election Commission and the achievements that were accomplished in a record time. They also admired the commission’s commitment in the implementation of international standards and the high level of technicality despite its newness, hoping to benefit from this experience to develop the Lebanese electoral process.
In three days, the Lebanese delegation was informed on the preparations of the by-elections, electoral process, awareness raising and voter education. They were also briefed on the efforts made in the execution of personnel training, the design of ballot papers and electronic connectivity. Furthermore, the Lebanese delegation visited polling and counting stations and attended a presentation on the distribution of election materials.
